Jane Blanchard

Her music has been described as fierce and poetic, sensitive, and savage. With her latest EP Still, Again Jane Blanchard comes crashing in from the outset, with five new tunes crushing any preconceptions that this multi-talent has a comfort zone.

Narcissus, her three-track debut EP, revealed a combination of angular rhythms and mixed time signature grooves in deeply personal songwriting packed with emotional complexity. And it was delivered with the sort of beguiling subtlety that would become a trademark of Blanchard’s style.

The following year, in 2018, there was Enemy, another emotion-driven EP with Stefan Westner once again providing superb support in the form of his orchestrated drumming. The sound was edgier, with the pumping conclusion of the title track, the odd-time rhythm of 22, and the forthrightness of Island revealing the persuasive value of anguish and angst delivered with compelling commitment. Indeed, Blanchard was already redefining herself, with rave reviews, festivals and tour dates confirming that what Narcissus had promised, she could deliver.

Now, as if to vault over any doubts or dash default expectations, Blanchard delivers her third EP, Still, Again. With Westner once again collaborating on the music and delivering on the drums, this time the singer ups the ante with five tunes that blow any preconceptions right off the radar.

Crashing in with the pulsating wall of sound that opens up Missing Me, Still, Again is like a new game for Blanchard and drummer Stefan Westner. With the funky groove of the title track, the disturbingly ominous power chording of Settle, and the melodic Settle charting new directions, whilst the closing track, Jane and her guitar alone on Take Me Home, is a reminder that even on her own, all alone, Jane Blanchard has found her own way home.

Fierce and poetic, sensitive and savage…and definitely daring and evolving. Yet again.
