Paragon Cause

There are few bands that can conjure up vivid images and emotions through the medium of their music. Paragon Cause, the Halifax/Ottawa burgeoning ethereal electro-rock sensation, is one of those rare amalgams of talent who can tug on heartstrings, make one think deeply or simply enjoy a sophisticated yet universally accessible musical experience.

The ethereal electro-rock duo are known for combining a warm, enveloping electronic sound that at times borders on post-punk and shoegaze. Paragon Cause bring melody and excitement to the forefront, defying labels. Their 2021 album, Autopilot also represents two musicians — Michelle Opthof and Jay Bonaparte — continuing to make the most of their time, and because of that, taking chances they might not have otherwise.

After the successful release of albums What We Started (2020) and Lies Between Us (2019), the duo return with Autopilot, their most ambitious project to date. Since its release in Aug 2021, Autopilot has thus far spent 10 weeks on both the Earshot top 50 (Peak #10) and NACC Top 200 (peak #32). Their music has been featured in over 100 blogs and music sites including Alan Cross, CBC Music, Exclaim, The East Magazine, etc. In Addition to their original music, Paragon Cause have produced soundtrack and original music including for the award winning and Acclaimed Short Animation film, ‘Last Fish, First Boat’ (https://filmfreeway.com/LastFishFirstBoat). After producing a cover of the song by iconic 80’s band, A Flock Of Seagulls (Modern Love is Automatic) they have been commissioned to remix the track, “Metro” from classic new wave band Berlin (“No More Words,” “Take My Breath Away”).

In addition to frequent collaborator Sune Rose Wagner of The Raveonettes, the duo further expanded their palate on Autopilot by bringing some iconic and surprising collaborators on board. Liam Howe (Sneaker Pimps, FKA Twiggs, Lana Del Ray) and indie rock legend Eric Avery (Jane’s Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, Garbage) have provided both production and performances to the new music.
